David Byck Realty Co. offers diversity of services

Located in downtown Savannah, David Byck Realty Co. has been helping clients buy and sell properties in the Historic District since 1972. The company, located at 13 E. York St., includes 10 sales associates, who are involved in various phases of real estate. An active property management department, and a strong residential commercial and investment division, round out the company's activities.

"We're user-friendly," said David Byck, president of the company. "We try to give personal service. We're large enough for full service but small enough to give personal service, too," he said.

The commercial division of the realty company has been actively engaged in acquisition, disposition and leasing in the Savannah metropolitan area, as well as markets throughout the East Coast. Byck believes in the benefits of continuing education, as well as computer technology, which has enabled the company to maintain a leadership presence among colleagues, associates and principals in the major markets throughout the country. In addition, Executive Vice President Marjorie Gordon has earned the distinction of belonging to the Council of Commercial Investment Membership.

Property Manager Elizabeth Lee attributes much of their rental business success to the Savannah College of Art and Design. "When I first became associated with the company we had vacancies a legal page long," she said. "But SCAD has really helped our business."

Lee said Savannah's downtown has improved immensely due to SCAD. "SCAD has really cleaned up downtown," she said. "You can now walk downtown and you don't have to worry about crime. I'm pro-student, of course."

Byck and Lee said they do all they can to help not only new students in town needing a place to live, but anyone who comes through their doors. "We've been here 27 years and we have experience," said Byck. "Our sales agents live in different parts of the city so they can help customers who are interested in learning more about a specific area," said Byck. From Tybee Beach to Isle of Hope, from Whitemarsh Island to Ardsley Park and the Historic District, agents can offer their expertise to people new in Savannah looking for a home, he said. David Byck Realty Co. represents "RELO" in the Savannah area. Through this relocation referral service the company receives notice of incoming transferees from more than 900 offices throughout the United States and Canada.

David Byck Realty Co. has been involved in the acquisition and disposition of numerous office buildings, as well as industrial warehouses. The firm acquired more than 186 unrestored apartment units in the Historic District for Savannah Landmarks Rehabilitation Project for restoration and reuse, Byck said. Lending institutions as well as limited partnerships have employed the company's services to list and sell more than 800 apartment units in Savannah's suburban district.

The company's property management department, formed after the company's inception in 1972, currently manages more than 450 apartment units for more than 150 individual and complex owners. The company has been engaged in all aspects of property management from the negotiation of leases to the day-to-day maintenance and budgeting problems which determine the success of the investment. They have also been management agents for various shopping centers as well as professional and residential space.

David Byck Realty Co. is Savannah's exclusive member of New America International, the world's most extensive commercial real estate marketing organization, Byck said. Among the many chains the company commercial department has represented are Sam's Club, Popeye's Fried Chicken, The Home Depot, Major League Bowling Lanes and Airborne Express at Savannah Airport. In addition, the commercial brokerage also includes the sale of Southern Bell District Headquarters Building, and an assortment of area apartment buildings.
