The Savannah College of Art and Design
is seeking qualified candidates for the following full-time positions:

Graphic Designer
Designer needed for the weekly, community based, award-winning, Georgia Guardian newspaper in Savannah, Ga. The designer reports to the art director and is responsible for designing and laying out a section of the paper; including collection of photographs, illustrations and comics for weekly edition and also will design some ads as needed. In absence of art director, the designer serves as a liason with freelance artists. Web design knowledge considered a plus.

Reporter
Writes news and feature articles on a wide range of subjects for weekly, community based, award-winning, Georgia Guardian newspaper in Savannah, Ga. Works under the direction of the Managing Editor. Conducts interviews to collect information for articles, adheres to deadlines, and coordinates stories with photographic and graphic design departments. Performs other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of the newspaper. Communications or journalism degree required. Knowledge of AP Stylebook essential. 1-2 years experience on weekly or daily newspaper preferred.

Draftsperson
An experienced draftsperson is needed at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Qualified applicants should be seeking full time employment (overtime available), has at least one year experience drawing cabinet details, experience with AutoCad, and is able to work in a fast paced work environment.

Publications Editor
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks a publications editor. Excellent feature writing, editing and proofreading skills required. Web writing experience a plus. Bachelor's degree publication experience and knowledge of AP style required, as well as ability to work effectively with a creative team of designers and photographers to meet deadlines.

MAC Computer Specialist
The Office of Information Services seeks qualified candidates for the position of Macintosh Computer Services Specialist. Duties include supporting Apple Macintosh hardware, applications and operating systems in a classroom lab environment. Administering user accounts.  Documenting procedures and work performed. Providing user support for various network services, such as email. Performing software andhardware installations and upgrades. Hardware troubleshooting and repair. Recommending hardware and software purchases. Minimum qualifications include a college degree and two years applicable experience providing technical support. Superior customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The ideal candidate will have solid hardware/software troubleshooting skills, an understanding of computer hardware architecture, knowledge of Macintosh operating systems, theability to work independently and as part of a team, a high energy level, and the will to take initiative. Experience in an academic or lab setting is a plus. Familiarity with graphic design software such as QuarkXPress, Illustrator, FreeHand, Photoshop, and PostScript fonts is preferred.

Architect
Position, Staff Architect: A person in this capacity would be required to have a bachelors degree in architecture and licensed and registered in several states including Georgia. A double major or Master degree in a related field such as Engineering, Historic Preservation, or Urban design is desired.  Demonstrated proficiency and a minimum of six years experience is required in master planning, architectural drafting and preparation of final construction documents, spec writing, coordinating with local planning commissions in an historic environment, supervision and construction management to insure project completions are on time and on budget and according to documents and SCAD standards. Salary commensurate with experience.

Project Manager
A person in this capacity is needed for budgeting and management of campus wide renovation and construction projects. Area of expertise include planning, cost estimating and budget preparation on a project by project basis, coordination and directing contract administration, purchasing, project revisions, telecommunications, supervision of on site construction and mechanical crews for the smooth construction of new and rehabilitation projects according to plans.  At least six years cost estimating and construction management experience in historic rehabilitations from inception to completion is desired. Salary commensurate with experience.

Customer Service Representative
Customer service representatives are responsible for receiving and accurately posting student payments into the system.  A pleasant and understanding customer service attitude is a must.  Computer knowledge, data entry and money handling experience is very necessary. Applicants must be able to learn quickly and work well in high pressure situations.

Help Desk Specialist (Full-time)
The User Support Specialist provides problem solving information, and/or appropriate redirection/escalation of requests to Computer Services Specialists via our help desk management software. Calls are accepted via phone, fax, email, or in person. The specialist reviews the status of all requests, maintains statistics on help desk use, and develops management reports that track activity. Coordinate and evaluate the daily work of Computer Aides. The specialist also performs personal follow-ups, assuring high quality trouble resolution.

Help Desk Rep. (Part-time)
The Help Desk Rep. assists the User Support Specialist to provide problem solving information, and/or appropriate redirection/escalation of requests to Computer Services Specialists via our help desk management software. Calls are accepted via phone, fax, email, or in person. The rep. assists students, faculty, and staff with laptop configuration to use the Jen Library network. In addition, the rep maintains a log of faculty on-line learning laptops checked in and out for service. The Help Desk Rep. collects and forwards e-mail requests, assists users with on-line e-mail search, and guides users through web mail access.

Director of Admission Portfolio Center
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks an M.F.A. graduate to direct the admission portfolio center. Responsibilities include receiving and presenting applicant portfolios for admission and scholarship review. The director also oversees administration of the Scholarship Competition for Student Artists and the SCAD Scholars program for entering undergraduate students. Required skills are organization, written and oral communication, attention to detail, ability to make presentations, and enthusiasm for working with people.

Assistant to the VP of Academic Affairs
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks an organized, diplomatic individual for an administrative position in academic affairs.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: detailed event planning, being a source of information for the students and faculty, scheduling appointments, and taking messages. Applicants must be computer literate, flexible and multi-task oriented. Bachelor's  degree and excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Structured Cable Specialist
The Office of Information Services - Network Services Group seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Structured Cabling Specialist I. The position will work as part of a team to expand SCAD's structured cabling plant. Must have 2-5 years verifiable experience installing data and telecommunications cabling systems. Experience working in a college environment desirable. Training and significant experience with Lucent Systimax products preferred.
Applicants must posses the ability to:

  • Read blueprints and build documentation for completed projects.
  • Build closets (mount & install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware).
  • Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Use testing equipment. Prefer experience with WaveTek, PentaScanner, or Fluke cable testing equipment.
  • Work on ladders for long periods of time.
  • Lift up to 75 lb.

Legal Assistant
The Savannah College of Art and Design seeks qualified applicants for a legal assistant. The college,s legal assistant works closely with the executive offices of the college and internal and external college counsel. The legal assistant assists with preparation of legal documents, research information related to legal issues, gather records and files and compiles information. Attention to detail, good research ability, excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and willingness to learn and continue updating those skills as rules and regulations change is a must. Computer literacy is required.

Senior Database Administrator
The Savannah College of Art and Design is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Database Administrator. Responsible for the day to day administration of the Banner information system, a suite of Oracle database applications. Must install, upgrade and maintain Oracle Relational database applications and the centrally supported UNIX platforms hosting these services. Make recommendations on feasibility of projects based on existing resources. Respond to user inquires on network applications or problems. Troubleshoot user hardware and software problems. Provide solutions to correct problems. Perform related duties as required.

Senior Database Administrator applicants should have the in-depth knowledge of Oracle relational database management and tools. Working knowledge of Windows, SQL, PL/SQL, PERL, and UNIX shell scripting important. Experience with UNIX system administration in a client server environment a must. Skill in analyzing and solving difficult problems, in using computers and computer software to store, retrieve and produce reports, in organizing data into meaningful reports; in eliciting pertinent information; in working independently and in teams; in coordinating several projects, and skill in working with a variety of customers. Skill in operating computer equipment and in explaining system capabilities and cost to users.
